Here at Washington State University we have the same kinds of stories that we
have seen so far. But we also have the legend of "the Holland Phantom".
Holland is the name of the Humanities/Social Science Library. It has four
floors, a basement and a sub?basement(which used to be a fall?out shelter).
The custodians started to notice strange things appearing when they were clean?
ing at night. They found a steaming cup of coffee on the stacks in compact
storage. Lights were on, which they were sure were off before, etc...people
started to speculate that someone was living in the library. They never did
find anyone. Some have speculated that it was Blumberg (the Bibliophile who
stole all of the rare books across the U.S.). (As a point of interest it was
W.S.U.'s own Steve Huntsberry who tracked him down and found the tremendous
stash of rare books he had stolen. I guess sometimes Bibliophilia is punish?
able by law.)
We also have had sightings of a ghost in the old clock tower across the
street. People who have spent long nights in the building have seen a figure
dressed in a cap and gown, which they claim is the late president of the
college (Enoch Bryan). If I was haunting a place I sure would pick something
different to wear. Maybe these stories would be better on Halloween.
Anyway...The voice of my angel on the other side of the mirror is calling
me to my lesson (no it's not a voice lesson, the Holland Phantom teaches
ACRRII rules).
