When One Goes, They All Go
I wasn't in the room when it happened. The student is a grad student who
has been working for us every summer. I love to tease him about his
"pushing" down the stacks. We have had 3 parties out of this however.
The first party was when we had the shelving fixed, and books reshelved,
and were pretty much up and running again. Our library had to be shut
done for oh, I can't remember, at least a month or more. Professional
folks were brought in who handle collapses and disasters, I think.
We have had 2 commemoration (sp?) parties since. Ron, our student, has
been asked to do a ceremonial collapse, of pushing down dominoes. We
do it every year, on the anniversary date and at the exact time the
stacks went down. We have a joke here, "Where were you when the stacks
collapsed?" It was at lunch. We all remember because most staff were
at lunch. The head of our library was at lunch, and someone had to go
to the student center and get them.
